I was gonna go shoppin’ on Friday night Cause there’s nothin’ in my fridge but that little light A bottle of water and a couple of condiments I was gonna hit the gym on Saturday Maybe call that number that my mama gave me For the daughter of one of her yoga friends But my buddy just told me that he’s got a keg There’s a party goin’ on down by the lake He’s callin’ all the girls--even the Johnson twins (chorus) There goes the weekend—so much for my big plans I’ve got good intentions but a really short attention span I’m like a little dog when he sees a squirrel When somebody starts talkin’ ‘bout beer and girls And the way things are lookin’ it’s all gonna happen again There goes the weekend I was gonna spend Sunday cleaning the house Go see Grandma maybe take her out For a drive in the country and call it an early night Now there’s a whole ‘nother option I need to consider And to tell you the truth it sounds a lot better Do I have a little fun—or do I do what’s right (chorus)

My dad said “be back by ten”, and handed me the keys My first time with the guys , Without him in the front seat With the windows down, the radio loud, Fellas hangin out the side We shouted at all the girls and didn’t read the speed limit signs I took that tight turn way too fast Tires screeched, and just like that My first time was over and done, nobody had fun Never felt so scared or dumb, I think I cried I didn’t say one word riding with the cops When I got dropped off Dad said he loved me no matter what That was my first time She looked good, I knew she would, an angel in blue jeans My first time with a girl all alone in the back seat My heart was racing, my hands were shaking as we took turns shedding clothes I wanted to do it right But had no clue how and no hope I tried so hard not to get distracted By her touch and just like that My first time was over and done, nobody had fun Never felt so scared or dumb, I think I cried I didn’t say one word driving down the block When I dropped her off She said she loved me no matter what That was my first time When it comes to driving and other stuff, I’ve come a long way So I can laugh when I look back and say “just like that” My first time was over and done, Nobody had fun Never felt so scared or dumb, I think I cried You only get one first chance, one first shot Just be glad you got Someone to love you no matter what Right from the first time

Are you the one who called about my Honda Suppose you’re probably wondering why I’m selling, don’t worry it runs fine See her and I, we bought this car together And since she’ll never jump in that front seat again, I don’t want this ride We drove from Mississippi, straight across to the Pacific Fogged up the backseat windows too many times to count Got stuck one night it snowed, had to hold each other close Didn’t think we’d make it out It’s not just a set of keys, but 10000 memories that I’m selling you As long as I’ve got this car, she’ll always have my heart I’m telling you It’s not just a set of keys Once got pulled over smoking up and speeding Cop didn’t stand a chance, we got off easy, all she had to do was smile Ran out of gas somewhere out in the desert Fell asleep on the hood trying to count the stars in the sky When we were strapped for cash, this thing helped us dine and dash I’ve never laughed as hard as we tore off cross the sand I drove all night and woke her as the sun lit up the coast Slipped that ring upon her hand CHORUS Are we doing this or not? Cuz I’m having second thoughts Now’s your last chance, yes or no Too late, I can’t let it go CHORUS

A Million 03:11
One star can’t light up the sky Like a blanket of ‘em on a cool, clear night one drop from a summer rain Can’t save a dying field of grain And girl it’s kinda like that with you Cuz there ain’t one thing I love about you ain’t one thing that gives me that feeling It’s the whole nine yards, it’s the sum of the parts It’s the full shebang girl just how you are There ain’t one thing, there’s a million One kiss I could live off of It’s all I need and never enough One time I tried to count But had to give up when I ran out of words To describe what it is about you CHORUS If you ever doubt yourself pretty girl like there ain’t a single thing That makes you stand out from the rest of the world, I’d agree CHORUS
5.
I came on out to the local cantina There she was, the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen, ya Sun kissed skin, eyes like a dream There’s no way she’d want a guy like me So I’m fighting my fear with my only defense One more shot of liquid confidence It’s nine o clock and I’m seven beers deep Findin’ the nerve to go buy her a drink I’ve walked right by ‘bout a hundred times Practicing my best pickup lines My limit’s 10, then I’m over the edge So I gotta take that leap while I’m 7 beers deep Swayin’ under the lights, she caught my eye I could’ve sworn that she gave me a smile So I grabbed my beer and a rum n’ coke Headed on over and I got so close Opened my mouth, but nothing came out So before she turned around, I downed ‘em both CHORUS I lost all hope, but what do you know? She stumbles up to me and stammers Honey what’s wrong, why you taking so long? I’ve been waitin’ over here …. Gettin’ hammered She says, it’s eleven o’clock and I’m seven beers deep Been waitin’ for you to come buy me a drink You’ve staggered on by bout’ a hundred times Practicing those cute pickup lines It’s getting late, next time don’t wait Go on and take that leap before you’re seven beers deep
6.
Good morning’ beautiful, hope you're still at home I got up early, thought I’d try your phone This week’s been brutal; clockin’ overtime I’d like to leave that all behind Could you do a little somethin’ for me? Grab your calendar and take a peek? If you’ve got nothin’ on, let’s make plans If you’ve got nothin’ on, I’m your man If you’ve been workin’ a lot, just feel like takin’ it off And spend the day gettin’ laid back Gimme a call if you’ve got nothin’ on Don’t lift a finger now, leave it to me instead I’ve got a bottle chilled, how ‘bout breakfast in bed? Forget the lipstick, don’t bother with your blush There’s nothin’ you should cover up I think you know what I’ve got in mind We’ll get lucky if you’ve got some time CHORUS Call up your boss, say you’re under the weather When you and I hook up, you’ll be feeling so much better CHORUS Cuz I’ve got nothin’ on

about

Introducing Mike Butler.

This young Toronto-based country singer/songwriter is sure making all the right moves in launching his career. For his first ever recording experience, he went into state-of-the-art Toronto facility Noble Street Studios with Juno-nominated producer/keyboardist Doug Romanow (Michael Pickett, Chantal Kreviazuk) and an all-star cast of players. That grouping included Mark Inneo (The Tenors), John Dymond (Blackie and The Rodeo Kings), Kevin Fox (Sarah McLachlan), Justin Ostrander (Amy Grant, Terri Clark), and legendary American multi-instrumentalist Dan Dugmore (James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt).

Butler came in armed with a clutch of high-calibre songs - some solo compositions, others written with top tunesmiths from Toronto and Nashville. Together, they crafted this stunningly accomplished self-titled debut EP, one that announces the arrival of a vibrant new talent.

This is contemporary country music full of heart, soul, high energy, and an upbeat sense of humour. The album kicks off with the rousing party anthem "There Goes The Weekend," a co-write by Mike and veteran Canadian hit writer Tim Taylor, and closes out with the cheekily suggestive "If You've Got Nothing On," a joint composition by Butler, Romanow and Debra Alexander. There is no filler in between, just a set of songs showcasing Mike Butler's range both as a convincing storyteller and as a vocalist with a relaxed and authentic approach.

In time-honored fashion, Mike got his musical start in high school rock bands. "It was more about getting together to play guitars and talk to chicks," he recalls with a laugh. It was while he was at university in Kingston that Butler became more immersed in country music. "I realized music didn't have to be serious all the time. Country has a sense of fun, it’s party music, but it lets you express your full personality. You can tell a serious story about losing a loved one, then your next song can be about kicking loose on a Saturday night."

Butler has a natural and unforced singing and writing style. While mentioning he's a real fan of current artists like Brad Paisley, Eric Church and Dean Brody, Mike stresses that "when I sit down to write, I never think I should make it sound like them. That'd be faking it. It‘s the same when it comes to singing. This is how I talk, this is how I sing."

It is the clarity of country music songwriting that appeals to Butler. "One of the reasons I got into country is you listen to it and the first time in, you know what they're saying. It's a genre where you like the artists 'cos you feel they’re just chatting away with you."

So it's time to invite Mike Butler in for a musical chat. It's an experience you're sure to enjoy.
